IPL Hair Removal
IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. It is a noninvasive light based technology used to permanently remove unwanted hair.
IPL is suitable for a wider range of hair colours compared to laser hair removal, including blonde and red hair.
Furthermore, IPL treats a much larger area of skin per light pulse than laser, which makes it a faster and more cost effective treatment option.
IPL is a leading choice when seeking permanent and hassle-free hair removal solutions. In addition, IPL offers a great way to save on the ongoing cost and time spent on waxing, shaving and depilatory creams.
SHR Hair Removal
SHR stands for Super Hair Reduction and is the latest breakthrough innovation in IPL permanent hair reduction. When compared to traditional IPL hair reduction treatments, SHR is faster, easier and best of all - pain free. With SHR, you can experience comfortable hair reduction treatments in less than half the time of a traditional IPL session.
The gradual heating method of the IPL SHR light delivery to the targeted hair follicle also means that treatments are comfortable and pain-free.
The rapid treatment times and superior comfort factor both make SHR a leading choice when seeking permanent and hassle-free hair reduction solutions. In addition, SHR offers a great way to save on the ongoing cost and time spent on waxing, shaving and depilatory creams. SHR excels in rapid and painless hair reduction from larger areas. All LUX Series SHR devices also come with standard IPL, to remove hair from more difficult to access treatment areas (such as the upper lip, chin or toes).

How does IPL Work?
A fully trained clinician will apply a specially designed hand piece to your skin and generate an intense pulse of light which will be absorbed by the hair follicle, disrupting the hair and preventing it from growing back.
The light from the hand piece is delivered at high intensity during a very short period of time. It is this rapid discharge of light that provides the high energy levels required for an effective IPL treatment.

What to expect during my appointment for IPL/SHR Hair Removal?

- Have had a spray tan or applied artificial tanning products in the last four weeks

Before your IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) appointment, there are several pre-care steps you can take to ensure the best possible results and minimise any potential side effects. Here are some common pre-care instructions:
1. Avoid Sun Exposure: It is crucial to avoid direct sun exposure and tanning beds for at least four to six weeks before your IPL treatment. Sun exposure can increase the risk of complications such as burns, pigmentation changes, or ineffective treatment.
2. Use Sunscreen: If you need to be outdoors, apply sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher to the treatment area regularly. This helps protect your skin from UV damage and ensures optimal results from the IPL treatment.
3. Avoid Tanning Products: Refrain from using self-tanning lotions, sprays, or other products that can darken the skin. These products can interfere with the effectiveness of the IPL treatment and increase the risk of adverse reactions.
4. Shave the Treatment Area: You may be instructed to shave the treatment area a day or two before your appointment. This ensures that the light energy from the IPL device is effectively targeted towards the hair follicles beneath the skin's surface, rather than being absorbed by the hair above the skin.
5. Avoid Certain Skincare Products: Stop using products that contain retinoids, AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids), BHAs (beta hydroxy acids), or other exfoliating agents at least one week before your IPL appointment. These ingredients can increase skin sensitivity and the risk of irritation during treatment.
6. Inform Your Technician: Make sure to inform your technician about any medications you are taking, as well as any medical conditions or skin concerns you have. Certain medications and medical conditions may affect your suitability for IPL treatment or require adjustments to the treatment parameters.
7. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment to keep your skin hydrated and healthy. Hydrated skin tends to respond better to IPL treatment and may experience fewer side effects.
8. Avoid Waxing or Plucking: Refrain from waxing, plucking, or using hair removal creams on the treatment area for at least two to four weeks before your appointment. IPL targets the pigment in the hair follicle, so these hair removal methods can interfere with the effectiveness of the treatment.
9.Shower Before Your Appointment: Take a shower before your IPL treatment to ensure the treatment area is clean and free from any dirt, oils, or skincare products. This helps maximise the effectiveness of the IPL treatment and reduces the risk of irritation or adverse reactions.
By following these pre-care instructions, you can help ensure a successful IPL treatment with minimal discomfort and optimal results. Be sure to consult with your technician if you have any questions or concerns about preparing for your appointment.

The duration of the appointment will depend on the size of the treatment area, with smaller areas such as the upper lip taking only a few minutes, while larger areas like the legs may take up to an hour or more.
After the treatment is complete, the technician may apply a soothing gel or lotion to the skin to alleviate any discomfort and minimise redness or irritation.
We will also provide you with aftercare instructions, which may include avoiding sun exposure and using gentle skincare products.
It is important to note that results from IPL or SHR hair removal are not immediate and typically require multiple sessions spaced several weeks apart to achieve optimal results. Additionally, some degree of hair regrowth is normal between treatments, but over time, you should notice a significant reduction in hair density and thickness in the treated area.
